In the realms of metal, Norway’s Tristania, veterans of the symphonic gothic metal movement, are one such gem who have never failed to approach and render what they wished to accomplish with absolute perfection. They have not only delivered a cycle of solid and spectacular releases but also returned in 2013, after a three-year break with their stunning release “Darkest White“. In the late 90s when the genre they played was often refered to as “Beauty and the Beast” because of its unique vocal style, Tristania thrived to the top and shocked the masses with the amazing chemistry between their, not two, but three diversely talented vocalists. “Darkest White” was critically well received, and even called a “real come back” for the band after former vocalist Vibeke Stene departed in 2007. In August 2007, the astoundingly talented and beautiful Mariangela Demurtas joined in as replacement to Vibeke and Tristania has never looked back since. With her staggeringly infectious vocals, Mariangela has set higher benchmarks for Tristania and has provided the band their renowned unwavering spirit and totality.
Metal Wani writer/correspondent Vaishali Jaded Jain recently had the opportunity to interview Tristania’s vocalist Mariangela. Read the entire chat below –
MW – Greetings from Metal Wani team. How are you doing?
MW – Growing up, which all bands and musicians inspired you? Can you name some singers you still look up to as role models?
MW – On tour and while recording, you stay away from your family a lot. How do you manage to spare out time for your family and friends? How much do technology and social networking come off as saviours?
