The first bands playing the metal festival are expected to be confirmed on Monday at 8am. Download was headlined this summer by Aerosmith, Linkin Park and Avenged Sevenfold, and the metal fest returns to Donington Park from Friday, June 12 to Sunday, June 14 next year. KISS are heavily rumoured to be playing Download 2015, after bass player Gene Simmons leaked a line-up poster last week.
They also suggested Motley Crue would be playing the festival on the same day. However, Download chief booker Andy Copping said the poster was fake. From his Twitter handle @Maverick_AC he tweeted: “@genesimmons Is trolling. Some mad fan posted this…not true…sorry”
American rockers KISS were due to headline Sonisphere 2012 at Knebworth, alongside Faith No More and Queen featuring Adam Lambert, but that festival was cancelled. Music forums speculate Slipknot will be among the Download headliners next summer, while website eFestivals says Muse are ‘to be confirmed’. Muse and KISS are headlining European festivals Der Ring – Grüne Hölle Rock in Nürburg, RockAvaria in Munich and Rock in Vienna along with Metallica in late May and early June. Also on those bills are Faith No More, Judas Priest and Limp Bizkit.
Some rock fans were hoping Foo Fighters would make a Download appearance, but this seems unlikely now Dave Grohl’s band have confirmed a string of UK tour dates for next summer, including two shows at Wembley Stadium the weekend after Download.
