Not everyday you get a chance to have a chat with a drummer who has been bashing drums from last decade and a half. The journey of Ryan “RVP” Van Poederooyen is beyond one can imagine. An honest, kind and an amazing person, Ryan is an ambitious, positive and creative drummer from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He mainly owes his fame to being the drummer for Devin Townsend in the Devin Townsend Project (2009-Current) and the now defunct The Devin Townsend Band (2002-2006). Ryan play’s drums for a metal band he formed called Terror Syndrome (2007-Current), he also plays in another side-band called Ten Ways (2008-Current) a progressive rock band formed by former ex-Devin Townsend Band members Dave and Mike Young. Outside of the bands that Ryan plays for, he offers his services as a professional live or studio session drummer, clinician and teaches drums privately when time allows.
As Ryan was gearing up for set of drum clinics ini Australia, Metal Wani Editor In Chief Owais ‘Vitek’ Nabi had an in-depth chat with him. Ryan discusses his musical journey, love for drums, clinics in Australia, the learning curve, what drummers can expect from the clinic, Devin Townsend’s musical direction, upcoming new DTP album and much more.
