For any black metal ‘elitist’, Deafheaven isn’t “trve kvlt black metal”; far from it. But with their latest album ‘New Bermuda’, they have captured the essence of black metal and put in rich production. The band is certainly a pot of skill considering the vast variety of sounds and textures they have created in their compositions. On June 4th, metalheads at Crowbar, Brisbane were blessed with an epic lineup featuring American metal giants DEAFHEAVEN and Local Aussie heroes High Tension.
The sad part about the live aspect of many black metal bands or even those who want to incorporate such elements, is that they fall short of capturing emotions of the listener in a trace-like dream while showcasing its own softer sides upon the aggression it rides on. It is a pleasure to say that Deafheaven have managed to own this trait and carry it well.
