At first, “Last Resort” was included on the band’s 1999 five-track promo-demo CD in their attempt to get a recording contract with Warner Brothers, who provided a small amount of money for its production as part of a development deal. After almost signing a record deal with Warner Brothers, Papa Roach showed their demos to DreamWorks Records, who offered “the big rock deal” the band couldn’t decline. The band maintained creative control over their songwriting and had the final vote when it came to releasing singles.

Four of five songs from the demo (one of them was “Last Resort”) were included on Papa Roach‘s first major label debut album “Infest.” The fifth song “She Loves Me Not” from the demo was re-recorded for the album “Lovehatetragedy.”
