The Queen of Heavy Metal, Doro Pesch, recently sat down for an in depth and extensive interview with Metal Wani’s Carl O’Rourke. Doro spoke about her new album, ‘Forever Warriors, Forever United’, as well as some classics such as ‘Love Me In Black’. The two also got around to covering her recent induction into the Hall of Heavy Metal History, how she was inspired by Lemmy [Motorhead] to name but a few.

Asked how the experience of being inducted into the Hall of Heavy Metal was for her, Doro offered,
“It was such a great feeling. I got inducted into the Hall of Heavy Metal History in Wacken!” “It was after our set, we played a great set and everybody had so much fun. It was eighty thousand people in Wacken with many guests. It was actually my thirtieth anniversary show, and so after the show I knew there was something going to happen. I didn’t know exactly what it was, but some people said ‘wait on stage’, you know? They said there’s something going on. I said okay.” Doro continued, saying “Then I got this award, and it’s a beautiful award. I though, oh my God, I never thought we would still do it. I thought as a band we would do it for maybe two, three, four, five years maximum! And now after thirty five years, we’re still doing all these festival and gigs and it touched me so deeply. I could hardly hold back my tears because it was so emotional- I’m so blessed.”
On how Motorhead’s Lemmy Kilmister inspired Doro’s upcoming double album, ‘Forever Warriors, Forever United’, an album which is dedicated to the late Lemmy,
“Usually, I was doing a normal [length] album, and I thought, yeah it’s cool but, this time it had actually a lot to do with Lemmy [Kilmister]. When he left, suddenly I felt, man my world is falling apart. He meant so much to me and I know millions, and millions of Motorhead fans and Lemmy fans feel the same.” “I was not really taking it seriously, when Lemmy was not with us anymore. I went to his funeral, and on the plane, out of feeling so heartbroken, suddenly this melody popped into my head and it was the song Living Life To The Fullest. The lyrics, melody, everything was there.” “I want to give thanks, and honour Lemmy.”
Doro continued,
“I immediately went into the studio, and we recorded that song. Then I felt it was kind of a wake up call, and I thought yeah man, I want to do a record now. You never know what will happen. You don’t know if you’re still alive in a year or if the world is still standing. So i felt like there was kind of this urgency behind it. I felt I wanna do this as best as I possibly can do, and I always feel that was but this time it was more intense.”

On her secret to staying as positive and successful throughout her career, Doro said,
“One word, it’s the fans! I love the fans. I love the people, and when I see the fans then that’s it for me. I’m in Heaven. I don’t need anything else. When I can hop on stage and I can see some faces, when I can connect right away, when I can get their sweat in my face when we play a small club, that’s the ultimate feeling. that’s what I live for. It’s what inspires me, it’s what motivates me, it’s what brings me through hard times, it’s the fans. It always was that way and still is.”
Doro concluded,
“To make people happy, that’s what I wanna do in life. To the day I die, if that’s possible.”
