Joe Elliot talked in a recent interview with a Youtube Channel called ‘Rock Hard With Jay Conroy’ and revealed what he really thinks about the veteran rock singers.
In the conversation, Joe admitted that he couldn’t sing like Paul Rogers and Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant. He also mentioned other iconic singers such as Elton John, Joe Strummer, and etc.
Here’s what he said:
“A lot of rockstars are lazy, and a lot of rock stars are thought of as lazy, like, ‘Ah, you guys do drugs and sh*g women and smoke reefer and drink beer.’ Punk-rock was an enormous part of my life. You wouldn’t think that listening to my music necessarily, but honestly, the attitude, punk was a lifesaver.
Then disco came along, and we all thought, ‘This could be it.’ Donna Summer was awesome, I thought ‘I Feel Lov’ was one of the greatest songs of all time, I think it’s just genius.
But all that stuff, every song in the Top 40, it was exactly the same form. Luckily, there was still another audience that wanted the rock – Elton John was still big and Queen was getting bigger, and [Thin] Lizzy was kicking in, and UFO was starting to take off.
He continued:
But then with the punk thing, what that did was: as a kid, I would listen to the Pistols and The Clash, The Damned, and The Ramones, and I would go, ‘I could do that,’ and it was exactly the same attitude that made me want to be in a band.
“I couldn’t sing like Paul Rogers or Robert Plant, that was never going to be my thing, but I could do Joe Strummer, Debbie Harry, Tom Verlaine, any of that kind of thing.”
