Sammy Hagar has once again touched upon the topic of reconnecting with Alex Van Halen.
Asked if Alex Van Halen is currently living as a recluse, Sammy Hagar told Scott Lips:
“Completely. He is very hurt, you know, I talked to people around him, and he’s not coming out of his shell yet. So when he comes out, I would love to [keep in touch with him]. I’ve reached out to him four times, but he doesn’t respond to me, to Mikey, to anyone.
Sammy further added:
“I know that no one I know has talked to Alex Van Halen except Irving Azoff. He called him and said ‘Oh, what can I do for you?’ and Alex said ‘Nothing, I ain’t ready.’ So, that’s a tough one. Those guys were close.”
Earlier Sammy Hagar talked to Ultimate Classic Rock where he opened up about a possible collaboration with David Lee Roth and late guitarist Eddie Van Halen’s brother, Alex Van Halen.
Regarding this, Hagar replied:
“I guess if Dave and Alex teamed up then that would be kind of cool, but other than that, there is very much you can do here. You know what I mean with that… It was one of the greatest bands of all time and one of the greatest times in my life musically. So, I think we should start sharing with the people and having fun as well.
“Alex just seems to he just doesn’t want to communicate with anybody. You know, Mike has reached out, and I reached out many times. I don’t know, I’m sure he’s still in pain from the whole thing, but I’m not dogging him.
”I’m just saying he just really doesn’t want to be friends or doesn’t want to communicate. I don’t know why but, we still got the rest of our lives to work this out. I’m going to live to be a hundred, so I got away. We have got a lot of time to work this out.“

These were very close brothers so that being said Alex needs a long time to heal. I would say he’s keeping in touch with Wolf and that’s about all at this tim.
Sam really needs to stop and leave VH behind him now! Its done, its over forever now! Accept VH was and forever will be with Diamond Dave, he is a side note as far as VH goes! Yet its monthly he finds a way to talk about VH and still doing something, even trying to rope Dave into doing something. If anyone does something it should be Roth and Alex and thats it! Stop already Sambo and move on!
Sammy wrote all the songs with VH. A side note? Sammy keeps talking about VH because he’s continually asked about VH. He’s not asking interviewers to please talk about VH. If he declines to talk about VH then he’s ignoring them or some other reason.
That’s one of the funniest things I’ve read in a long time. Well done.
All of this Dave V Hagar debate is ridiculous. Van Halen changed because Ed changed. It started with 1984 and continued after Dave decided he was the show and not the VH brothers. History has shown how wrong he was. He’s a performer not a singer or song writer. The latter he never embraced which is why he pushed for the remakes of older songs. Sammy continues to perform at a high level while I sound as good as Dave these days(Dave never was a good singer which is why the VH boys were reluctant to hire him to begin with). Both versions of VH are great and it’s a shame a proper tribute to Ed is being held hostage by Dave and Alex. It’s that simple. Even Wolfie has said as much.
Every album Sammy made w/VH went to #1 but hes a side note? Its Dave or nothing? Lol Thats 1 of worst opinions I’ve ever seen, u really should keep that 1 to yourself smh
It was popular – but it was bad Van Halen. It was like every Rush album after Moving Pictures or every Kiss album after Creatures… Stadium fillers, but, a far cry from the good stuff
No it’s not. Van Halen is with Dave. I was on the road with them at 17 selling shirts. That band was Van Halen. I walked out of a Hagar show with Van Halen Bros. It was a completely different band. They should have renamed it what it was called Van Hager. It is not Van Halen. No edge, no grit, no blues, no originality. Corporate Jock Rock.
Van Halen was better with Sammy Hagar hands down
Let him mourn the death of his brother this will not happen over night let him be!
This man is hurting, just let him be and give him time, I just hope he realizes how much people love him and are concerned for him.
I don’t agree with the Chris’ and Badgley. Van Halen is who he is, only a handful of artists could even make this work so successfully with a style transformation like this. Don’t forget how progressive EVH was, DLR resisted Eddie using a keyboard. Besides DLR’s voice the most iconic sounds on jump and Panama came from the keyboard. DLR is amazing, Sammy is amazing! Rename the band?!?! WTF, why let your shallow thinking get you dirty. Sammie has soul that’s magic. DLR has charisma that I still see people try and emulate from that generation on a regular basis now. Either way, a message to DLR, don’t let the crazies out there make you think most VH fans wouldn’t love to see you and Sammie. I absolutely would.
When Roth Left and The boys brought in Sammy to continue
The band They continued the band !!! I’ve always liked Roths vocal over. Sammy cuz well that’s what we new VH as. But Sammy also dedicated a lot to the band and gotta say I did like a lot of the music they put out together but I’ve always preferred Dave’s vocal over Sammy’s but that doesn’t warrant slamming Hagar nor would I . I’m a guitar player so that being said. Wouldn’t matter who the hell the vocalist was. Cuz I was drawn to Eddie’s guitar anyway. There are a lot of songs out there from different bands where I don’t like the vocal, but I still enjoy the song because of a catchy riff or Wicked solo.
I don’t say to myself well I’m not listening to that song because the vocal doesn’t catch my interest .
Many people out there followed Van Halen through all their changes and we all still love them, just as we do Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Elvis Presley, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Prince, etc…it doesn’t matter what happened through the years. The music is timeless.
