Rock is the one music genre that doesn’t need much introduction. Even those who do not love everything rock ‘n’ roll have at least a song or two they enjoy, probably because of the way it invokes distant memories.
Rock music can bring back happy and tragic childhood experiences, lift your spirits, reconnect you to feelings of heartbreak, or remind you how being in love for the first time felt. If you think you know everything that goes on in the rock ‘n’ roll world, however, this post is meant to prove you wrong.
David Lovering Doubles as a Magician
It is not uncommon for celebrities to have surprising part-time jobs. For instance, Alice Cooper served hotdogs in his restaurant when he was not rocking the crowd with his band – the restaurant however closed in 2017. As for David Lovering, he drops his audience’s jaws whenever he transforms into a magician going by ‘The Scientific Phenomenalist’.
Lovering says he acquired his interest in magic after a friend, Grant-Lee Phillips, took him to a convention. His style takes a scientific approach, combining his stage performance experience with his knowledge in electrical engineering. “It’s all kinds of … weird physics experiments that you’ll never see,” he says.
Jack White Was a Furniture Upholsterer
Most of us only know Jack White as the lead guitarist and singer of the White Stripes duo, among other bands. What you didn’t know, however, is that the person we now know as a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, once worked in a furniture shop.
Jack started as an upholstery apprentice in 1991 and would go on without hanging his single until 1996. The passion, which supported him exclusively for many years later, continues to be a part of his life as Jack has kept an operational shop called ‘Third Man Upholstery’ in his house.
A Dentist Introduced the Beatles to LSD
Although not as concealed as the rest on the list, the story of the man George Harrison once described as the “wicked dentist” in an interview could not be left out. It remains to be one of the most enigmatic events in the Beatles’ history, as evidenced by the dozens of books written on the subject.
So, what happened? The gang was hanging out in a two-bedroom flat near Bayswater Place, London, April 1965, when George’s dentist slipped the sense-enhancing drug into their coffee. Unaware of what’s about to happen next, the band enjoyed their cup of coffee just like any other day. What followed was an experience that sparked the band’s hit song Help!
Elvis Presley Recorded More than 600 Songs But Wrote None
Although it is impossible to confirm this hypothesis, it is said that Elvis was given co-writing credits on many of his songs because his label demanded the writers to surrender 50% of the rights before recording it. The story suggests that Elvis did not write any of the 600 plus songs that defined his music career. Whether he co-wrote the songs or not, however, we can all agree he was one hell of a singer.
Rock Groups Inspired Several Slot Games
Rock music’s popularity and global reach have had a powerful impact on our society, influencing many aspects of our daily lives, from fashion and attitudes to charitable and social causes. Therefore, it makes sense that slot games would also be inspired by rock music. But did you know there are many of them?
Next time you play in your favorite online casinos and come across names such as Guns N’ Roses, RocknRolla, Kiss Online, Rock Star, Reels of Rock, Elvis The King Lives, and The Elf Wars, just know that you have rock ‘n’ roll to thank.
Nirvana Got Kicked out of Their Release Party
If you think this is surprising, wait till you hear the story behind it. The party, which was going down at the Rebar in downtown Seattle, spelled impending disaster from the onset because Kurt Cobain and the rest of the crew had a rep for mischief.
Things kicked off in an everyday mood as the group signed autographs, all the while playing the part of friendly hosts. Just like one would expect from a rock band release party, the drinking got out of hand and the group started throwing watermelons. That’s when things started going south fast. One thing led to another, and it all ended up in a giant food fight, so security had to intervene and throw people out.
Brian Jones Could Play over 15 Instruments
There are multi-instrumentalists, and then there is Brian Jones. The guitar, harmonica, piano, recorder, marimba, sitar, organ, saxophone, trumpet, vibraslap, oboe, Appalachian dulcimer, brass section, autoharp, xylophone, percussions. The guy can play almost anything you throw at him. What!
Axl Rose is Not His Real Name
Axl Rose was named William Bruce Rose Jr. at birth. His mother was 16, while his father was 20 at the time. Later, the mum got married to Stephen Bailey, so she changed her son’s name to Stephen William Bruce Bailey. Axl would not learn about his true father until he was 17, after which he started using ‘Rose’ as his last name.
After brushing shoulders with the police, Rose moved to Los Angeles in 1982, joining the band AXL. He would later legally name himself W. Axl Rose.
Jack White Almost Became a Priest!
Who would have sung Ball and Biscuit? Well, not Jack White; at least not if the first career he had lined up went through. He had gotten accepted into the Seminary at Wisconsin. He was almost going down the divinity path when he backed out in favor of the public school at the last minute.
The reason that changed Jack’s mind is even more interesting – he had just acquired a new amplifier he loved so much and didn’t think he would be allowed to bring it to the seminary. He obviously loved his music more.
CONCLUSION
Ozzy Osbourne once said, “I’m into rock ‘n’ roll because rock ‘n’ roll, to me, means freedom.” No other group embodies the quote better than the rock stars themselves. From redefining oneself as a magician when not raining down on the drumset to starting food fights, these musicians take freedom to a whole new level.
