Alex Van Halen has shared his reasons for declining to participate in this past summer’s “The Best Of All Worlds” tour, which spotlighted the music of VAN HALEN. The tour featured former VAN HALEN singer Sammy Hagar, bassist Michael Anthony, guitarist Joe Satriani, and drummer Jason Bonham.
This 2024 tour follows over two years after Satriani mentioned being approached about a VAN HALEN tribute show that would include Alex and David Lee Roth. However, that project never materialized, reportedly due to Roth delaying approvals.
In a recent interview with Billboard, Alex explained why he did not engage with Hagar and Anthony regarding his involvement in “The Best Of All Worlds”: “I’m not interested. They’re not doing the band justice. They can do what they want to do. That’s not my business.”
Alex is currently promoting his forthcoming memoir, Brothers, which notably downplays Hagar’s tenure with VAN HALEN, as well as the time with EXTREME vocalist Gary Cherone and the band’s reunion with Roth that began in 2007.
“What happened after Dave left is not the same band,” Alex stated. “I’m not saying it was better or worse or any of that. The fact is Ed [the legendary VAN HALEN guitarist and Alex’s brother, Eddie Van Halen] and I did our best work whenever we played. We always gave it our best shot. But the magic was in the first years, when we didn’t know what we were doing, when we were willing to try anything.”
