Wolfgang Van Halen mentioned that he would rather fail than cover the Van Halen songs and follow in his late father’s footsteps.
During a conversation with Spin, Wolfgang said:
“I know Dad taught himself, and I wanted to follow the same way. It was important that I develop my own skills and my own sound. That’s helped me, or else you’d be listening to some s**tty Van Halen cover band. […]
“Given the opportunity to succeed by playing([Van Halen’s) ‘Panama,’ or to fail by playing my music, I would choose to fail.”
