Very rarely do we find anything that doesn’t wear off with age, and the British hard rock legends Deep Purple are a perfect example in this case. We do not see any bands or musicians being active for over five decades or producing a twentieth album. Even if they do, they are not most likely to not do that with the same charm of their formative years and peak career times. ‘InFinite’, about to be released in this month, will definitely be one of the best records to be released this year, in my opinion.
The line-up remains the same as the previous album released in 2013: Ian Paice – drums; Ian Gillan – lead vocals; Roger Glover – bass; Steve Morse – guitar, vocals; Don Airey – keyboards, and Bob Ezrin has handled the production with precision. The first track “Time For Bedlam” begins with a voice over before it goes on to define the classic Deep Purple guitar and organ attack. And Gillian’s voice is still marvelous! The song has already been released across various digital platforms and has proved to be quite a success. The next song “Hip Boots” goes a bit groovy with a few spectacular guitar runs by Morse. “All I Got I You” begins with a soft melodic guitar section before going down to the usual sound of this album. This one has also been released just a month back on various digital platforms by earMusic. Morse and Airey have done a perfect job in this one, and this can be easily one of the band’s greatest songs if we consider the last five albums.
Moving on, “One Night In Vegas” takes a very tipsy blues note and is a bit different from the other songs. And, guess what? There’s an epic guitar solo in this one as well! The riffs slow down and go a bit sludgy in the next one and has a few iconic Gillian screams. “The Surprising” has a captivating and evocative feel, and “Johnny’s Band” and “On Top Of The World” also prove that Deep Purple is still alive and kicking.
“Birds Of Prey” probably is the heaviest song of the record with some beautiful guitar works. Finally, the album ends with these legends paying their homage to another legend The Doors with a decent cover of “Roadhouse Blues”.
‘InFinite’ proves that age does not matter and will surely create a great impact on hard rock lovers or even lovers of good music in general as well. Steve Morse stole the show in this one as usual, so did the other members.
