Bassist David Ellefson talked about his role and importance in Megadeth, telling The Metal Tris:
“I noticed when Dave [Mustaine] and I started playing together again in 2010, when we went over to the studio and we fired up ‘Symphony of Destruction,’ Dave and I playing together is a sound that was just like…
“Right there, Shawn Drover looks over to me and says, ‘This is awesome!’ [Laughs]
“So guys that play together, you get that chemistry. My bass tone, riffs, bass parts of Megadeth – we developed those together as a team since 1983.
“And I think there’s a fun moment when it was just me and Dave in the studio recording bass on ‘Dystopia’ – probably the first album in the history of the world recorded to a click. [Laughs]
“Just me sitting there, and Dave’s engineering, and we’re going over parts. And it was fun, because you don’t even need to have drums and guitars, and all the other things there.
“We can just tell what this is gonna develop into just by putting the bass down to… *imitates clicks* To the click track. And I think that speeks to experience Dave and I had together, and we can almost finish each other’s sentences.”
