Toby Wright, who engineered and co-produced Korn’s 1998 record “Follow the Leader,” revealed an interesting tidbit from the recording sessions, saying on Talk Toomey Podcast:
“I got to do all kinds of crazy stuff.
“One of the things can be heard on ‘Freak on a Leash’ – the opening guitar track was recorded through a fan.

“It wobbles quite a bit, and that sound was done through a Pignose [amp] through a fan, and then captured on a stereo microphone.
“That took me two or three hours to set up while everybody was trying to be really patient.
“It got to the point where I was like, ‘Alright, this either works or it doesn’t, or we go for the straight guitar sound.’ And it worked, it became the intro on the guitar.”
