Queen guitar master Brian May talked about veganism on the Jonesy’s Jukebox show, saying:
“I think we have dominion over every creature on this planet, which by rights I don’t think we should.
“To me, every creature on this planet has an equal right to have a good life. We shouldn’t be abusing animals.

“I think we got it all wrong. We weren’t put here to be users and abusers of any other creatures on this planet. We are here to do good stuff.
“I wish I was a vegan.
“I’m a vegetarian and I haven’t managed to make the journey to being vegan. A lot of my friends are, and I eat a lot of vegan food, but I can’t call myself a vegan.
“I like cheese but I don’t like the process by which it’s obtained. Cheese is a hard one, because vegan cheese is really not desirable. I’m not a big soy fan.
“I have a weakness for cheese, it’s hard to give up.”

May added:
“I’ve seen a lot of dairy farms. There are some good dairy farmers, but I don’t think we should be doing it. We are not really designed to drink the milk of a cow. Why should we be?
“There’s an awful lot of stuff in it which is not good for us. Drinking almond milk is probably a whole lot better for you, and it’s in the end better for the environment, too. And it’s better from the point of view of animal cruelty.
“So, yeah, we should all be vegan. We damn well should be.

He’s a very goodhearted man. I think it’s your own choice and all, what you choose to do towards other life. Myself I choose to respect it and not kill/hurt/abuse it as much as I can. That is MY choice, for myself and also the effect on other life, including the planet as a whole, even though I am one person.
It doesn’t hurt me either, as much as people want to claim that, as I’ve become less depressed (or got a grip on it through healthy discipline) and clearer of mind. I feel like I was limiting myself for the first… I don’t know, 25 years or so of my life, after which I took a couple of years to transform and grow.
But anyway; Just wanted to add that “soy” shouldn’t be the default or synonymous to “vegan”. I follow a vegan diet but there’s soy in almost nothing that I consume. I don’t even like/trust it, because apparently they don’t even know exactly what soy is and it’s just as “good” for you as milk from a creature that didn’t birth you.
So an alternative to cheese… I don’t even know, because I’ve never liked traditional cheese(s) anyway (and I’m Dutch + Italian, go figure). – But surely there must be a way as there are “vegan” alternatives to many foods by slightly altering their recipes. – Isn’t cheese like molded cow’s milk?… I don’t know if almond or coconut or oat milk (the real milks) do the same thing. But if they don’t, why would you even consume the traditional “milk” if it does that and when it smells the way it does?… I don’t get the attraction.
That said, I don’t understand the whole “substitute” versions of non-vegan foods anyway. Like how they try to emulate meat and all that… Like with cheese, I’m not attracted to that, it still looks disgusting. All it does is fool people and soothe their addiction to animal meat. They STILL need to THINK they’re eating animal-flesh, at least subconsciously, and it’s not really the right state-of-mind.
Just eat foods as they are… Stop trying to mold it into something it isn’t. Same counts for dairy products, though.
