Tom Morello was asked by WRIF whether he’d be up for collaborating with musicians with opposing political views – specifically Ted Nugent – to which he replied:
“Ted’s a friend of mine. I haven’t rocked with him, but I’d be happy to rock with him.

“Music and politics can overlap, and it’s alright when they don’t. In my personal life, I’m friends with people who I disagree with politically, and they’re great people.
“Same with music too. You’re welcome in the moshpit no matter whether you’re right-wing, left-wing, or agnostic.
“One of the things that we noticed over the course of 20-something years, a lot of people are drawn to the music by the aggression or the guitar solo…
“They may be exposed to a different set of ideas because of the music.

“The same way for me, The Clash and Public Enemy changed my life and helped orient my views. Rage and Prophets of Rage can have that same impact on people.”
Bassist Tim Commerford was a bit less open to Nugent collaboration, simply saying:
“I will never play with Ted Nugent as long as I live on this planet. I would ride bikes with him just so I could beat his ass. [Laughs]”
