Lead guitarist of Metallica, Kirk Hammett spoke in an interview with a Metallica fan and revealed his emotional problem. He said:
“I have a real problem. I have this big hole inside of me that’s just filled with anger and frustration and sadness. It’s been there for a long time. I talked to plenty of professionals who told me that most certainly it will always be there. So I’m learning to deal with it.
It’s part of me and it’s something that I’ve been able to access for a long time. One of the reasons I liked playing the guitar is that it soothed the beast that was inside me. As a young adult, 15 years old, I felt like other than losing myself in horror movies and comic books and books and whatnot, I was able to play music and lose myself in the same fashion. But at the same time actually, create something and have an output that other people can listen to and interact with.
So it wasn’t really about me just going into a hole with a book or watching a movie, it was me going into a hole that was actually beneficial for me and for the people around me, in the right situation.
But I’m still f*c*ing pissed off and angry, and I’ve been working on it for years. And I’ve learned to deal with it. I’ve always been able to use it in a very positive and creative fashion.
I feel very fortunate and lucky because I’ve seen those emotions and that sort of mental condition tear people apart and I just really… I’ve seen a lot of my friends who are similar just not being able to come to the same sort of a relationship with it that I have.”
