“After the whole [Rock Hall] awards show, Metallica had a little party. Scott [Ian, guitar] and I were talking to Lars [Ulrich], and he just hit us with, ‘What do you guys think about doing some Big Four shows?’
“Scott and I looked at each other and said, ‘We gotta get our shit together.’ And we did. We got [classic singer] Joey [Belladonna] back, and we’ve never stopped. From that moment on, our momentum, we kept growing and growing.
“I’m happy to say that we are in such a good place. I think back to the days of when we were a little bit arrogant, a little bit ignorant and with maybe too many yes-men around to tell us, ‘Don’t do this.’

“It’s hard for me to say this, because I feel some of the records we did in the ’90s were really good. But, at the end of the day, you have to do what is more pleasing to you and more gratifying.”
