Our friends at Ultimate Guitar published an article with 10 bands that are going to take the throne from the legends. Check it our below and let us know in the comments:
Killswitch Engage
One of the main forces of the early metalcore movement, Killswitch Engage are entered the 21st century with a huge bang. Both Jesse Leach and Howard Jones eras of the band are some of the best metal we got the chance to hear in the last couple of decades. Now after seven albums, Killswitch Engage revealed that they’re working on their 8th full-length studio record. There’s no doubt their growth will continue.
Periphery
Although proggier stuff was appealing to the masses, younger metalheads seem to have a soft spot for it. And how wouldn’t they when bands like Periphery are around, delivering some of the best progressive metal songs we ever got the chance to hear. There have been some misunderstood statements from Misha Mansoor that made people believe Periphery is not doing well, but they’re still a young band and we’re yet to see grow even bigger and use their potential.
Trivium
Since 1999, Trivium has been one of the leading bands responsible for bringing the classic metal to a whole new level. Ever since the late 90s and early 2000s, the band’s popularity has been growing steadily. Knowing the fact that he started out at a very young age, Matt Heafy dedicated his whole life to music and has never been afraid to try new things out and push the boundaries. This is one of the main things a musician needs if they want to go up to the top.
Greta Van Fleet
Is it time for obligatory Greta Van Zeppelin jokes? After all, the remaining members of Led Zeppelin will not be reuniting so we need Zeppelin instead of Zeppelin to play some Zeppelin.
All the kidding aside, rarely do you see a band with such a great start. Even though they’re in their early 20s, Greta Van Fleet guys have shown some great songwriting and performing skills. Their huge break came with the release of “Highway Tune” in early 2017 and they’ve just kept delivering great stuff since then. They’re very likely to make it big in the future
Gojira
It’s not a common sight to a European metal band achieve such success. Especially if they’re mingling with extreme subgenres, which can be heard in their music. As the years went by, they never disappointed their fans with new albums and their following just kept growing bigger. Listening to their latest album “Magma,” Gojira’s future seems promising.
Avenged Sevenfold
Looking at their success in North America and Europe, it can be concluded that Avenged Sevenfold’s future position as the supreme rulers of metal is secured. Despite some hate being thrown here and there about “The Stage,” the album is starting to grow on everybody. There are no real mysteries about their bright future so we’ll just sit back and watch while “Exist” plays in the background.
Devin Townsend
Anything Devin Townsend does is like a gift from Metal Gods themselves. He’s so talented that he could fart in a box for 50 minutes and still manage to create music that resonates with music fans worldwide. He’s one of heavy metal’s biggest hopes for the future and we just can’t wait to hear what he prepared for us with “Empath” and “Moth” projects.
Mastodon
Mastodon’s style always shifted a bit, but you could still hear their recognizable sound and songwriting. And now that we got the chance to hear the amazing “Cold Dark Place” EP, thinking about the band’s future just became more exciting. Who knows, maybe they’ll find a perfect combination of country and metal that will open them up for huge audiences. Or maybe they’ll become new AC/DC after Angus Young’s blessings.
Ghost
No surprise here really. Tobias Forge – in his many forms as series of Papas and Cardinals and whatever – has been capturing hearts of countless metal fans around the world. He puts so much effort into the creative process and does best not to repeat himself too much with every new album. The secret behind Ghost’s success is simple – songwriting and shows should always be spot on
