In a new Interview with Comebackstage, Steel Panther frontman Michael Starr talked about guitarist Satchel. He says the guitarist is behind the majority of the music.
Here’s the statement:
“Satchel writes a lot of the music for me and for the band, so what he’ll do is: he’ll write out, like, a demo or a song idea – and some of his ideas come from us partying in the bus or hanging out – and we think of, like, subjects that are just funny.
“So, he’ll write a song, he’ll send it to me and I’ll listen to it, and then what I do is I take it in, listen to it, and then I put myself on it, which is, like, my style, my vocal stuff.
“Same thing with Stix [Zadinia, drums], he’ll write all the drum parts and also use the parts and some of the stuff that Satchel used as well. Then we just come together in the studio and record it.”
On songwriting, he said:
“Well, Satchel writes the songs, so he’ll do the music and the lyrics, and then he’ll give it to me. I’ll look over the lyrics and make sure – ’cause he writes, but sometimes his grammar is really bad, I have to fix it for him.
“And I also have to change the words around to what I think is, like, the right thing to do, because sometimes he gets a little off track. I have to help him a lot.
“Usually, if he’s on c*caine, his grammar is better, yeah. Some of the songs like ‘Glory H*le’ he wrote on whiskey, so that was pretty cool. And he writes most of our ballads when he’s on her*in.”

I will never understand why Metalwani censors certain words. C*caine? Really?
