In a new interview with Meltdown of the Detroit radio station WRIF, David Lee Roth shared a new update on Van Halen.
He was asked about the status of the band and the tour which was planned.
Here’s the statement:
“That’s been canceled a number of times, and I think VAN HALEN‘s finished and this is the next phase. I’ve inherited the band de facto — whatever that means. I think it means if you inherit it, carry this proudly. VAN HALEN isn’t gonna be coming back in the fashion that you know. And that being said, Eddie‘s [Van Halen] got his own story to tell. [It’s] not mine to tell it.”
In a recent interview with VHND, singer David Lee Roth shared an update on the current status of Van Halen and Eddie Van Halen’s health.
He said:
“Four summers have gone by [since the band last played a show]. And for a singer, that’s paralyzing. Like a boxer – or a tap dancer – I am dependent upon my whole rig. My whole body.
“Perhaps playing the guitar, or piano, for example, with your hands, is a bit more forgiving over the years. If you come watch me now, I’m 65 going on 23. If you saw my X-rays, I’m 65 going on 80. [Laughs]
“I’ve paid a price for the time off, frankly. Enough said there. I hope the best for the fellas. But I don’t know what’s coming up with Van Halen.
“It’s time for me to use whatever talents and skills that I have. I’m bettin’ the rent on it. You’re going to have a ball. This is the smile that launched a thousand hips.”
Fans have been eagerly waiting for the reunion. There was a report stating Eddie Van Halen health isn’t up to the mark.
Lee Roth was asked about his health. He said:
“I’m the face of Van Halen from this point on, most likely. I’m not sure what’s happening with Ed, but he’s probably not gonna answer the bell this time.
“And it’s not my place to guess. But we’ve been in touch. The fellows who I’m working with in terms of my road crew and the amps come from Van Halen.”
Van Halen, a legendary band that’s credited with restoring hard rock music to the forefront of the scene have been inactive for a while now. The last Van Halen album titled A Different Kind Of Truth was released back in 2012 and was hugely successful. The band toured for few years and eventually stopped touring once the album cycle ended. In the last few years, there has been a discussion on the possibility of Van Halen reuniting with classic lineup. Although this rumor has been active since 2017, it hasn’t materialized to date. The last update we had was when Sammy Hagar, who fronted the band for more than a decade, hinted about the possibility of a world tour with classic Van Halen lineup.

Who even knew Van Halen was still a thing? What is this…1985?
A shot out to Michigan
A Different Kind of Truth was a huge success? On what planet? It was God AWFUL!
Best thing they’ve done since 1984, you mean
Agreed, I thought it rocked !
Most of the haters don’t even know much of it was written in the 70s
Agree. And DLR did a great job for his age, especially with the lyrics. Some of the best he’s ever wrote!
Getting old isn’t for pussys……..dammit!
Its 5150 time.
Buagh
Great album ?
I named my son David Lee angel , John angel Louisville .Kentucky in 1989 ?
we said good bye more than 20 years ago, Dave, we’re good.
Who is “we”? Because you sure as hell don’t speak for this part of we! Keep on keeping on, Dave!
o.k., fine. I meant me and anyone else who is sick of this hair plugged, no voice left, has been. if you still listen to Van Halen with any regularity, more power to you. they were great, but it’s over and has been for decades.
look out for that bus
Oops, too late, UNDER!
ambiguous statement. what bus, exactly?
Let’s pretend rock is still relevant
Funny You Old Timers Just won’t let it go lol
Your over with and do is rock lol
You are just like Eddie and diamond Dave lol all washed up.
Soon you’ll be in the rest home saying I’m a rocker living the past lol
A person who thinks he’s still in the loop lol
If rock is “over” what has replaced it?
Nothing dummy haven’t u noticed?
Pendejo…all your posts point to you being a troll
Pendejo ? What are u an illegal alien ?
you are the most pathetic of all, commenting on a story that you say is irrelevant, but yet, here you are
Uh oh another old guy that wont let things die lol

Your lost in time dummy
Love you, sticks and stones, remember…..
I prefer sticks and stones
let’s pretend you do’t have glue in your synaptic cleft
Old timer lol
Quit the heavy drugs, kid. ? Anyway, what do you listen to?
Getting DLR’s opinion isn’t as important as getting Gary Cherone’s opinion on Van Halen….DLR has never been relevant in the Van Halen world.
You must be delusional or you’ve never heard of the 70s/80s, you know, the era when they exploded into one of the most influential rock bands ever?
Who is Gary Cherone?
A much better singer from Van Halen than DLR could ever hope to be, that’s for sure….Gary Cherone was almostbas good as Sammy Hagar, when Van Halen was actually a good rock band.
Dave must have spent a night with your girlfriend, you seem awfully bitter
Dave would’ve just fallen asleep face down in his apple sauce anyway…..DLR was washed up at birth….
Washed up at birth lol, he is worth almost 100 mil, not bad for supposedly being “washed up at birth”
Joe I’m sure u have all of The Extreme albums. U have to remember Dave wrote most of the Lyrics to all the Hits
U can fit all of S ammys hits in a phone booth….. One.
And yet, the band DIDN’T have a platinum record, or #1 single until Sammy graced that train wreck of a band with his singing talent….But keep talking about how DLR’s van halen “influenced” anyone, especially compared to the global success of the Sammy years of greatness that DLR has never achieved in his pitiful life of trying to “sing”…..
Get your facts straight Jump was V.H.only #1 hit… V.H. sold 15 million and as 1984 did so Sammy had more success I gather…
It’s cute that you’re perplexed about the lyrical content the DLR came up with for the song “jump”….Such deep lyrical meaning behind each and every syllable…..Those lyrics must have changed your life….
DLR has always been a hack, and should have instead become an eye surgeon….Maybe he would have has some success if he had….
Keep Rockin David. ?? ?
Van halen might be done but the new music if thats what you want to call it is pathetic sorry you all have to grow old listening to that utter trash rock on dave your the master showman
Now, if only DLR had a shred of skill as a singer…..
U don’t last 40 years in the music business if u can’t sing.. 5 octive singer too. His scream is the most copied scream.. Dave is the Tom Brady of Frontmen The Best.. He’s not called Diamond Dave for nothing
He gave himself that nickname….And he can’t sing….He “talks with a resemblance of pitch”, and he screams like a little girl….That’s his entire bag of pitchy tricks….DLR has been riding on Eddie’s coat tails since he met Eddie in 1971….DLR never had talent, and never will….Just like his radio show that was promptly cancelled….
5 octave? You must be one of DLR illegitimate kids sticking up for daddy. Freddy Mercury confirmed 3.5 and unconfirmed 4 octave. DLR can’t touch Mercury range ever infinity. Have you seen DLR lately? He and you are delusional to think he has a great voice. He was great voice when they were in their prime, Today DLR literally lets the fan fill in as back up singers…..
Dave, everyday doing a press release to build an audience for his Vegas show. SAD
It’s actually these tripe ‘music news’ websites recycling the last tidbit over and over, with a new more clickbait headline every time.
LMAO Dave is being Dave….i’ve heard trio rumors…anyone else?
All the silly DLR haters must have never heard the first and greatest phase of Van Halen’s career, the one that helped shape and inspire countless hard-rock AND metal bands to this day, with its incomparable energy, swagger, aggressiveness and originality. What came next was merely standing on that era’s shoulders and was soft, commercial pop-rock in comparison. And those bashing ‘A different kind of truth’ perhaps don’t know that a vast amount of its material was written in the seventies.
No DLR no VH!
…And yet VH didn’t have a SINGLE #1 record, or single until Sammy joined what was left of the band…..
So what, what does that really mean? Does that mean Michael Jackson is the best music you can hear? Does that mean the Black Album is Metallica’s best? Of course you’re entitled to your opinion and prefer SH but that argument is a very poor one. Give me Van Halen, VH II, Diver Down, Women and Children First, Fair Warning,1984 over any of their later material, any day, every day. They would never have achieved legendary status in the Rock world without their first era.
Agreed, anyone counting number 1 singles is listening to the wrong band.
And yet DLR has done absolutely NOTHING if value without the Van Halen brothers….Proving my point that he has never been an “in demand frontman”, let alone a descent “singer”….
LOL oh man your examples! By that standard neither did Freddie Mercury when he went solo, his work was crap! Not comparing singing skills but there is so much more going on for a good frontman and back in the day DLR was a showman, poor Sammy. Are you friggin’ kidding me? Say what you want but SH era is mediocre by comparison, they merely surfed the wave of pop commercial trends of the mid 80s onwards then 10 years after they were merely a shadow of what they’d once been and the rest is history.
And yet DLR can’t get arrested since he was kicked out of VH for not being able to sing…..And Sammy Hagar has SEVERAL successful projects.
What was that about Dave not being arrested? It made no sense… ? ‘Success’ is very relative. SH is essentially unknown in Europe nowadays, he’s almost forgotten everywhere. And go ask him if he likes the VH brothers! ?
Look, I’m not disputing who’s the better singer here, I’m just saying that Van Halen wouldn’t have existed as we know them without their best era – not the most commercially successful but the most relevant and musically best – the DLR era.
So, you’re saying that vh’s best years were when they couldn’t write songs, and were forced to resort to doing bad covers of other people’s songs?….And failing for those cover versions of other people’s songs to even make it on the charts?….And that is your definition of “success”? Early vh wasn’t even mediocre, let alone listenable….DLR being fired was the ONLY smart thing the vh brothers have EVER done.
Man, couldn’t write songs? Mediocre? A band of covers? You’re on drugs and/or delusional. Goodbye!
Then what’s your lame excuse for all the even lamer cover songs on the DLR-era vh albums?…Sammy didn’t have to resort to bad copies of other people’s songs, since he’s a gifted musician, who often put eddie in his place with his guitar playing…..Keep in mind, Sammy Hagar had a gold record well before by ever did…..And by needed Sammy Hagar to get one….Yet you still claim that dave was a “great frontman”, and a “descent singer”..HA! facts prove you wrong.
What are you talking about, Dave did “Strumming With The Devil” a masterpiece, did you forget that, well, did you, dammit !!!
I liked “Eat ’em and Smile”
Eat em & Smile? NOTHING? Drop In The Bucket???????? NOTHING – Post links to YOUR songs pal. Go on! Post em!!!!!
VH didn’t become “legendary” until Sammy Hagar entered the picture…And they stopped being remotely relevant when Sammy left.
After what happened many years ago at the MTV VMA awards, I learned a long time ago not to trust anything that David Lee Roth says. After all, it’s always been Eddie and Alex’s band, and now the younger generation coming into the mix with Wolfie there also. Sammy Hagar even said so in that Eddie’s gotten to where he doesn’t trust anyone outside the family, especially after his past issues with both Sammy and Dave put together. So, anything that either says, just take it with a grain of salt. Unless you hear it fom either Eddie, Alex, or Wolfie, it’s all BS.
Roth Made V.H. and That’s The Bottom Line..
You’re on drugs!!!
Davey acts much much older that mick Jagger , cant sing worth a Dickens. Not that he ever was anyways
Davey was in the Monkees pal. Diamond Dave to you!
Ah, um, I think most people said “goodbye” to Van Halen many years ago! They’re an 80’s band for cripes sake…
And what’s that mean
… Led Zepp is a 70s band ,the Beatles are a 60s band and Elvis was 50s 60s 70s but they are all played so much still to this day
Yes, but all those bands were also “done” years ago. Dave is implying he’s quitting the band now, in 2019, when in fact the band has been over for quite a long time.
Ah, um ….I think their first two Albums were released in the 70’s. STFU if you don’t have any clue. Why bother?
Van halen the last twenty years have just been a parody of themselves The real van halen died after the mean streets album. The 1984 album sucked, with Eddie playing synthesizer . Mean streets was the last hard rock van halen. Like Metallica’s last real metallica album was the justice for all album
Fair Warning Album u mean Great album but with 1984 album and their first Album that made Van Halen one of only seven bands in the world to sell 10 million or more albums each. All I have to say now is VEGAS BABY………
Mean Street not Streets – Yeah, Different Kind Of Truth sucked. NOT Yeah, 1984 sucked, hate Drop Dead Legs, Panama hate, hate, HATE Hot For Teacher – guitar playing sucks
“credited with restoring hard rock music to the forefront of the scene” who writes this rubbish? They have done nothing of the kind, they were hard when others were hard and they have never had any sort of real come back to the days when that was popular. And even if they had, that sentence is written so poorly the point is lost.
You my friend just don’t have a clue. They were hard when Disco was KING – THEY SAVED ROCK & ROLL – the alternative was Black Sabbath – How did Van Halen supporting Black Sabbath work out for Ozzy? By the way, you got any links to websites or publications where your writing shines through cause you must be quite the writer to so blatantly diss A SENTENCE! One sentence.
Maybe you just stick to reading boy. You’re not equipped for this.
It’s a business first with Eddie and Rock band second. Even though Alex is equal owner he has always stayed quiet but behind the scenes is in the decision making process of the band. What they all don’t realize is that they complimented each other. Eddie was good at the business side and DLR was good at the marketing side. Unfortunately their egos got in the way of seeing that.
Dave sounds like Trump
