Things in Van Halen camp are surely not great.
Recently David Lee Roth made a comment on Van Halen coming back in a different fashion.
According to AlternativeNation.net, this has led to rumor that Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, and Wolfgang Van Halen could be choosing to move on as a trio with Wolfgang fronting the band. This hasn’t been confirmed yet.
C Brown posted on VHLinks.com talked about the possibilities, saying:
“Doesn’t sound ridiculous to me. I’d rank fan theories form likeliest to least likely as follows:
1) EVH has decided to retire. Dave is bitter because he wasted 4 years (an eternity for a performer his age) for Eddie to ‘answer the bell.’ If true, this one is particularly sh*tty from DLR’s perspective. It likely means that rather than choosing to be inactive, Dave was told to be inactive by team VH because a tour was in the works…more than once.
2) Word was passed to Dave that the band has decided to move forward as a trio. That’s where Dave’s comment about VH ‘not coming back in the fashion you know’ is coming from. It also explains Dave’s saltiness. If true, he was basically kicked out of the band.
2) Ed has a non-life threatening health condition and has no plans to tour in the foreseeable future. Remember how angry Dave was about Eddie’s hip replacement back in 1996? Rinse and repeat but this time DLR’s window to keep doing his thing is 20 years shorter.
3) EVH is gravely ill and VH in all forms is over. This one is highly doubtful. There would be no reason for Dave to be p*ssed or throwing shade at EVH about writing his solos if the guy was seriously sick. Dave is an odd duck, but I’ve never heard anecdotes of him being cruel or lacking in humanity.”
Van Halen, a legendary band that’s credited with restoring hard rock music to the forefront of the scene have been inactive for a while now. The last Van Halen album titled A Different Kind Of Truth was released back in 2012 and was hugely successful. The band toured for few years and eventually stopped touring once the album cycle ended. In the last few years, there has been a discussion on the possibility of Van Halen reuniting with classic lineup. Although this rumor has been active since 2017, it hasn’t materialized to date. The last update we had was when Sammy Hagar, who fronted the band for more than a decade, hinted about the possibility of a world tour with classic Van Halen lineup.

Dave’s lost his diamond! He’s boring, can’t sing… Bring the Red Rocker back. He still has it… I used to love Roth but he’s finished.
That sounds good! Love Sammy!
Did you guys know that Sammy is in his seventies? That’s hard a pill to swallow. Guess he’ll die with his boots on!!!! I seen the ” Red Rocker on stage once!!
I cant believe he’s that old! Wow do i feel old now too!!
Van Halen should remain where it has been. In the past, they had their time, now it’s over. If they come out as a Power Trio, rename yourself. Let the music do the talking, not the Name of the Band.
All three members would be Van Halen’s. They would literally BE Van Halen. Renaming would be moronic. Eddie is too much of a narcissist to do that anyway.
Yeah, but if wants to be a RICHER narcissist. Going under a new name means new merchandise. That doesn’t make any money for those other than the Van Halens. I’m sure Roth get some money from the Van Halen Name, why give him more.
Ridiculous, its all 3 of their last names!
Why not name the band ,
“Gang of Wolves “” in reference to Wolfgang. Gonna be the CEO of the family business pretty soon anyways. Look at all of these little kids,. taking care of music bizz…….
Sounds good!
I agree with you Davy M. ….I saw original line up back when I was 16yrs. old. Cleveland….. Saw them again with Hagar in Bonner Springs Kansas in 1990. Roth was full of life and high energy !
I say they go on as an instrumental trio, singers can go stuff it
That would work out Great.. OMG another great idea

I just saw a video of Cherone doing Mean Streets live. I must say it was really good. Maybe I should have given him a chance before…..At this point I’d like to see him back…DLR voice is shot, he can’t sing at all….Love SH but I think the bridges have been burned.. . Peace
Either way DLR statement stands, the Van Halen we once knew is finished, the rest really doesn’t matter. Love everything Sammy but it’s not the same for me. Makes me appreciate “A Different Kind of Truth” all the more.
Again?
Without DLR the pure true , thundering band Van Halen does not really exit. Sammy Hagar sucks, always did, he took that band for a millions of dollars free ride. Opportunist. Just my opinion. We may see these veterans play again briefly, never say never.. But Roth has to be part of it to be real.
Even Micheal Anthony saw the light. Hagar is way more talented a front man for VH than DLR ever was, and Hagar is still rockin’ and killing it. DLR is washed up. Was when he came back.
Best with Sammy..Dave can’t sing and lyrics are cheese
D FLat Lee Roth had zero number one albums with VH while all four studio albums with Sammy went to number one
And Dave era albums sold millions of more records. Millions!
no, they didn’t. I liked both versions but the fact is that van hagar was much more successful. quote from wikipdeia:To replace Roth, Eddie picked Sammy Hagar, formerly of Montrose and at that time a very successful solo artist. Van Halen’s first album with Hagar, 1986’s 5150, was the band’s first No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The three studio albums that succeeded, OU812, For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge and Balance, also topped the charts.
You Sammy idiots are all the same. It’s easily searchable. Roth moved 57 million records, Sammy 27 million. Even extrapolated out based on average sales had Sammy made 2 more records to equal Roths he would STILL BE 10 MILLION RECORDS behind. #1 does not mean squat vs. Units moved and the Sammy years did not have to compete against Thriller. You can cite all the #1 records you want…total sales is what counts and old Sammy boy is about 30M records short.
firstly, your low i.q. is showing by your unnecessary need for name calling in a debate. try acting like an adult. secondly, record sales are judged on actual sales. so yes, a number one record makes a difference. the higher sales of Dave are based on the numerous platforms that music went through since the initial release of early van halen records. initially sold on vinyl, then cassette, and finally c,d,, but initial sales, you know, the one that counts, goes to Sammy. deal with it.
Your not Metallica!
thank goodness. if I was going to be a metal band, I would be Maiden. they, unlike crapallica, don’t suck.
Now you are just getting desperate because you can’t admit you are wrong. Really…you are going to argue mediums? Sad.
since Dave couldn’t outsell Sammy at release time and we know that early Van Halen was sold on 3 different mediums, then the only logical solution is that the extra mediums are responsible for Dave’s larger numbers. it’s logic and your inability to understand it is the only sad thing I see here. that and your need to show your ignorance to the masses. run along junior.
Nope…it’s YOUR inability to understand that being number one in a weak market is not as good being a top seller in a tough market. You keep leaving out the fact (which kills your argument) that 5150 and OU812 were released in the vinyl / cassette (CD’s still cost over $25.00 back then and were in short supply.) yet you don’t apply your “people re-bought them on CD” logic to them (and still neither outsold 1984 or VH1). Your whole argument boils down to 8 tracks. Seriously, you want us to believe that VH moved 30 million 8 tracks. Please…Enjoy your inability to do math and please keep defending the indefensible. Thing is, no matter how much you try and twist logic…5150 will always be a bad sounding 80’s record and VH1 will be a top 10 of all time. Deal with it.
you make up whatever you need to fit your viewpoint, you should work for CNN. ou812 came out in ’88. according to answers.com: In the year 1989, a music CD cost between $5 and $10. The price has increased to around $15 for new releases in 2014. so I will say it again, a large amount of those recordings went straight to c.d. unlike every early van halen record. that is the difference. you are wrong. however you seem more motivated by a dislike of Sammy than facts, which means you have been arguing your opinion. I don’t care in any way what your opinion is. neither do the facts.
Please stop…you are just making your lies look even more stupid. The price of a CD in 1988 was $17.98 ($39.11 in today’s dollars.) So no…sorry, a 30 Million Unit cannot be explained away due to mediums. 5150 and OU812 were primarily sold on vinyl and in cassette form AND neither approached the sales numbers of 1984, which were released on those very same mediums. I know it sucks to realize the Sammy era didn’t hold up, and even though Daves voice sucks now, he is still the preferred lead singer of VH.
you must be Dave himself to be this dense. time for a nap, Dave, no one wants to hear you sing or tell stories about how you were the best singer in van halen. Sammy was and he can still sing, too. unlike you. bye Dave.
You have to factor in the change in formats – vinyl to CDs.
The first 3-4 Van Halen albums were also available on 8 track. Most fans who bought those albums on their initial release later bought the CD versions.
The Hagar era primarily sold on CD only…
You really believe that? Sad. Sounds like excuse making to me. Your attempt to make up a 30 million unit gap is to blame mediums? Your flimsy excuse hinges on you thinking that people bought records every time the mediums changed. When 5150 and OU812 came out….CD’s were still very expensive. They both were vinyl and cassette releases primarily. So your “replacement” theory would apply here too. So unfortunately, your argument does not hold water. Also 1984 far outsold 5150 yet they were less than two years apart…tell me again how the mediums caused that?
You obviously downloaded all the songs free then.
I bought the original vinyl, initial CD releases and then the remasters. That’s just me buying them 3 times. I’ve also got Mexican, Greek, French and Japanese pressings on vinyl.
Is it so impossible to believe that diehard fans would do that?
I get it, you hate Hagar, move on. Roth made a huge mistake leaving Van Halen in 1985. The Roth that left, never came back
DLR sucks big time
It’s getting ridiculous either retire as VH or do something! Because of the horrible state of modern rock music we are still begging to see these geriatric bands from our youth. So much talent left on the table, it’s terrible to have a gift like that unused
“The terrible state of rock music” What? Were you sleeping for the past year? 2019 has been one of the best years for rocks music in nearly two decades. Maybe you’ve had your head in the sand, maybe you have really specific taste, I don’t know.
Exactly look at the stones, the who, Paul McCartney and other bands if rock fame still play and sing and move better than washed up davey.
Get Sammy back do a new record and tour .Do something because you guys have wasted a lot of years doin nothing..With Sammy you guys were everywhere ..Not a Dave fan..
D Flat Lee Roth just cannot seem to get along with anybody due to his abrasive ego.
Hey Urjimmy , where have you been is the question? Open up your eyes and big ears– RocknRoll is dead and ever y one except you know that!!
As for Eddie Van Heineken and the other misfits give me a break VH is washed up, please dont embarrass yourselves once again with your TopJimmy (misses) bullshit songs! WHO CARES ABOUT VH(except themselves ego maniacs) ANYWAY?!? Well according to polls & music popularity its Rap music thats in & in to stay, way– So in case you havent heard Urjimmy RocknRoll is dead, dead, dead perhaps like your brain!! Take care and brush your over the hill wanna be rocker hair..Stroke it easy.
Can any one here say TROLL
Who the f* cares at this point? go play country music.
Ugh!!! You Monster!!! 😉
It seems this is the only means currently in which Van Halen stays relevant to anyone who still cares?? Even Gorilla Glue could not hold what evers left to this dysfunctional mess of a group! Lol
let’s just agree that Van Halen is, and has been for a long time, over. thanks for your service.
Rabid Tree Sloth is good for the 80-year old women visiting Las Vegas.
I’m not 80, and I still want David.
Wolfgang Van Halen has consumed DLR for sustenance.
at this point who cares? Tour or no tour. Van Halen is done. So tired of all the rumors.
