During a conversation with AMBY, Steel Panther guitarist Satchel and singer Michael Starr talked about their latest album “Heavy Metal Rules,” while also touching on some of the current rock bands.
Michael said about the band’s current state:
“We’re selling a lot of records now, and we’re getting a lot of streams, it’s really exciting. Ticket sales have gone up 20 to 30%, we have Stitched Up Heart with us out on the road, and they’re killing the game.”
If Steel Panther is the cutest band of all time. Does another band come close?
Michael: “White Lion?”
Satchel: “You know, there were some really hot bands in their prime.”
Michael: “What about Whitesnake?”
Satchel: “Listen, Whitesnake, I’m being totally honest here, this is an international show; Whitesnake in their prime, okay, they had great f*cking hair, some of the best hair in the business, okay? Who was the best looking guy in the band? David Coverdale was the best looking guy in the band.”
Michael: “No, the best looking guy in the band? The Greta Van Fleet guy.”
Satchel: “Don’t ever say that f*cking name, don’t ever say that! We’re talking about Whitesnake, and you just brought up Greta Van Fleet?! I don’t even know who that is. Isn’t that a delivery service?! They have a bunch of vans, right?”
Michael: “What was his name, John Sykes?”
Satchel: “You’re comparing David Coverdale to Greta Van Fleet? John Sykes, Vivian Campbell? Adrian Vandenberg?”
Michael: “Adrian Vandenberg was the hottest guy in the band.”
Satchel: “Adrian Vandenberg didn’t actually play on the record, a lot of people don’t know that. Who played on ‘1987’?
Michael: “John Sykes, and who wrote all the songs in there? Satchel.”
Satchel: “Satchel did? God, I haven’t got paid a goddamn dime for that.”
