During a conversation with Rolling Stone, Roger Waters reflected on the “attempted peace meeting” he had with the surviving members of Pink Floyd back in June 2019.
When asked about the “peace plan” between him and Gilmour and why it “didn’t work out as planned,” Roger replied (transcribed by UG):
“It’s funny you should say between me and him [Gilmour]… There wasn’t an elephant in the room, there was a drummer in the room!”
“Of course he was there! Only three of us live; Syd [Barrett]’s dead and Rick [Wright]’s dead and as far as I know, there were only five – there were really only five of us involved in through most of it.
“Yeah, Nick was there. Yeah, I wrote out a sort of a plan because we’d come to something of a – I don’t really want to talk much about this and – but my plan didn’t bear fruit.”
When asked about the reunion, Roger said:
“No, it wouldn’t be nice! It would be f*cking awful! Obviously, if you’re a fan of those days of Pink Floyd, well then you have a different point of view. But I had to live through it. That was my life.
“And I know in the wake of it, I’ve been cast as something of a villain by whoever, whatever – so be it, I can live with that. But would I trade my liberty for those chains? No f*cking way!”
On the peace meeting, Roger said:
“No, of course not. Nothing… This was just, ‘Can we release the remastered vinyl version of [1977’s] ‘Animals’ without it turning into the Third World War’’ Wouldn’t that be nice?
“I actually suggested going democratic. I said, ‘Why don’t we just have a vote? There’s only three of us, and we could decide all those things like that.’
“But no, no, they wouldn’t have that. God knows why. Not that there is a God, but you know what I mean.”
