Sad day in the rock music world. Rock legend Little Richard has died at the age of 87. His son, Danny Penniman, confirmed the musician’s death to Rolling Stone, but said the cause of death was unknown.
Former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony has penned down a lengthy open letter to show his feelings and thoughts about the legendary rock veteran, Little Richard.
Michael Anthony has posted one of the iconic photos of Little Richards and wrote:
“We’ve lost one of the pioneers of rock and roll today. Little Richard set the tone for a generation of musicians to follow. Long Tall Sally, Rip it Up, Lucille, Good Golly Miss Molly, and Tutti Frutti were just a few of his songs that rocked!
I never had the chance to see him live, but this man could throw it down, and throw it down HARD!! RIP little Richard, and thank you for what you helped to create… “
Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham’s son Jason commented:
“I got the pleasure to meet this man ❤️ Dad loved him.”
A fan named Jimmy said:
“The original glam rocker. Man, he could tear it up! Always thought I could hear a bit of influence in Roth’s yells in your guys’ music, too. (Feel Your Love Tonight, etc) Now it’s down to one… Jerry Lee”
Another Instagram user said:
“So sad!!! A true legend and pioneer. He and Jerry Lee Lewis along with others of that era truly set a blazing trail for musicians to follow. If you don’t think their influence is still felt today you don’t know music!!!! May he rest in peace.”
