Based on conversations with governors in key U.S. states, Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino is optimistic that large-scale American concerts are closer than ever to return.
He said that “a clear outline to a 75% to 100%” capacity for outdoor U.S. events in 2021 was looking likely to be green-lit.”
Speaking on Live Nation’s Q4 2020 earnings call and as reported by Music Business Insider, Rapino said:
“[We] think we’re better off waiting for a high bar capacity moment in most of the states to ramp up and talk to the artists about getting paid properly.”
Rapino added that the prospect capacity re-opening in the largest U.S. markets with over 75% capacity was “within sight.”
“We are seeing… what we’ve been talking about: [fans] are excited to get back to the show as soon as we get the green lights in these markets to open up.”
‘The Stadium Tour’ is confirmed to happen in 2021, It’s still a big concern considering how the pandemic is still going strong in the U.S. and other parts of the world like India, Brazil, etc.
The touring decisions are still a big concern for promoters and it was recently revealed that big tours may not happen till late 2021/early 2022.
Now, this would turn out to be a massive concern for Motley Crue, Def Leppard & Poison tour.
One of the well-known music authorities people, Marc Geiger pointed out that there will be needed more time for people to safe and sure they can return into venues, enjoying their favorite acts.
He said:
“My guess is late ’21, more likely ’22… Look, the whole thing is a sh*t show. Whether it’s testing or it’s the government, it’s too infinite of a well to go down. But in my humble opinion, it’s going to be ’22.
I guess it’s only a matter of time when we may end up another postponement/cancellation news from the promoter sometime in 2021 first half provided the situation is under control.
Surprisingly, in a new interview on SiriusXM‘s “Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk”, Def Leppard’s Phil Collen is unsure whether the tour will actually happen in 2021.
When asked, here’s what he said:
“I honestly don’t know. I’d say it’s 50/50. If everyone does what they are supposed to do, then we will be there next summer — literally a week from now, next year, we’ll be out there. I’m really looking forward to it.
“Me and [MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist] Nikki Sixx were talking [about] getting in shape for it — we were, like, ‘How you doin’?’, and all of this stuff, and it was awesome — and then we had the plug pulled,” he continued.
“So we actually have got a year to look even better, so it will be even cooler. So hopefully — that’s the plan. It depends. It’s not us. It’s like when you’re driving. It’s that thing — it’s not me; you have to watch out for every other idiot on the road. So that’s where we are right now. But we are ready to go.”
