Even though metal isn’t the type of music that you would expect to find in athletes changing rooms, but some of the biggest names in the industry are true metalheads.
Music plays an important role in professional sports. It motivates athletes and helps them overcome mental health issues since every professional sport is very demanding. We’ve seen countless times where professional athletes fall in love with music so much that they start to pursue a career in the music industry, which is not often successful.
However, in today’s article, we will focus on professional athletes that are true fans of heavy metal and hard rock music.
Let’s jump down to the list.
David De Gea
There are many debates about whether or not David de Gea is the greatest goalkeeper on the planet, but like it or not, we can all agree that he is on the top of the list. However, David shocked fans when he announced that he is a true fan of metal and rock bands like Metallica and Slipknot.
He also added that his Manchester United teammates don’t like his taste in music, and whenever he plays such a tune in the dressing room, everyone moans. He even got a chance to present a metal band called Avenged Sevenfold a few years ago at Manchester Arena on a live concert.
Sergio Ramos
Here we have another football legend from Spain that is a true fan of rock and heavy metal. He played most of his professional career in Real Madrid as a captain, which helped him to become one of the most followed footballers on Instagram, after moving to PSG this season.
But, despite moving to Paris, his taste in music remained the same. He still loves bands like AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses, and Motorhead, in fact, he got the chance to meet Axl Rose during one of the AC/DC gigs a few years ago.
His wife Pilar Pubio is also a true metalhead. She even started her own metal clothesline that had some success in the past couple of years.
Russel Westbrook
Now we move to the NBA, where most people expect to hear hip-hop and R&B music coming out from the changing rooms, but not when Russel Westbrook is there. The NBA is not often associated with heavy metal, but the Los Angeles point guard started to take some fashion risks and break barriers.
A few years ago, he turned up with a vintage Slayer t-shirt which opened Pandora’s box of debates. Many NBA reporters think that Westbrook didn’t even hear about the band, and he is doing only for the fashion.
Marc Colombo
Marc Colombo is a former American football offensive tackle and coach with an impressive career. You can visit edge.twinspires.com to find more details about NFL kickers like Colombo.
He is currently the offensive line coach for the New York Giants, but this is not the most impressive thing about his career.
He had another important role in his career. During his days with the Cowboys, Colombo started pursuing a different career singing heavy metal at the same time. He was the lead singer of a heavy metal band named “Free Reign” that included his metalhead teammates Cory Procter and Leonard Davis.
He is still listening to heavy metal and he likes to turn up the volume at training as the music gives him energy. On a game day, he has heavy metal music rolling in the back, and he is yelling and getting everyone fired up and motivated to give everything they got.
Sean Doolittle
Moving to the MLB, and we have a former collegiate record holder for the most career wins at the University of Virginia, Olympian, a star playing for the Oakland A’s, and a true metalhead.
He is a music-obsessed athlete that likes to blast Metallica or other heavy metal bands before every match. However, things turn to the worse after he received an injury a few years ago which restricts him from playing.
But his love for music continues. He says that his favorite Metallica album …And Justice for All, but adds that Ride the Lighting probably has more sentimental value behind it.
