During an appearance on 96.3 KKLZ, singer Sammy Hagar talked about his relationship with former Van Halen singer David Lee Roth, saying there isn’t any bad blood between them.
Here’s what Hagar said:
“He and I don’t even have a feud. To be honest with you, I have no problem with Dave.
“I don’t know what he’s got going with me, but I think he always feels competitive. I think he feels like he has to raise his flag, like, ‘I’m Van Halen.’
“‘Cause I had a solo career before Van Halen. I was in Montrose before Van Halen. I’ve had Chickenfoot.
“Dave has got Van Halen, so I think he has to hold on to that kind of tight. But I don’t care about that. If someone said, ‘Oh, I never knew you were in Van Halen,’ I’d say, ‘Eh…'”

I think Sammy is in competition with Dave. You hear Sammy is always vocal on all VH stuff. Dave is retiring, so should Sammy. With David’s last shows coming up and if AL joins him onstage and possible Mikey. Sammy will really be pissed. If that happens, Sammy will write another book to bash Van Halen again.
You don’t have a f’in clue what your talking about! Sammy is in his 70’s doing multiple projects that quite frankly are blowing me away. Roth can’t hold a candle to what Sammy and Mike are doing! Oh by the way, Mike and Al would never join Roth on the stage again. Hang it up jealous Dave.
I believe that there will always be a competitive spirit between Sammy and Dave. Whether you like one over the other really doesn’t make a difference. They both are in the family of Van Halen. My hands off to Wolfgang for his effort, before the passing of his father, to bring the family together for a “kitchen sink” tour. That would of be awesome.
The first 6 VH albums and tours are one of the most influential, groundbreaking bands ever. A unique, one of a kind band that sounded, looked and acted like no band before them or after them. Sammy was cheesy before, during and after VH. He brought cheesy ballads and love songs to a band that never had to stoop to that in order to sell albums. Van Hagar is the sound of a band selling out for quick sales. Sammy may have high vocal range, but he writes lyrics on a 7th grade level.
Hagar and Roth are equals. Both singers did amazing things in and out of Van Halen. Both singers contributed equally to the soundtrack of our lives. And both singers will always have a special place in our hearts.
I preffer Sammy over David.
