In a recent conversation with Metal Asylum, Twisted Sister’s Jay Jay French was asked about the cover song ‘Leader Of The Pack’ which is part of the band’s album ”Come Out And Play” (1985).
‘Leader Of The Pack’ is a song by the girl group The Shangri-Las. The song is about a teenage girl named Betty who is dating the leader of a motorcycle pack, Jimmy. After her parents’ disapproval, Betty leaves Jimmy and he dies in an accident.
About the cover song, French replied:
“Well, what are you gonna do? It was and the band’s never been shy to say it was a big mistake. There were a lot of mistakes made.
”There were a lot of good decisions made, there were mistakes made. The most satisfying thing about our life is that we came back in 2001 for the benefit and then had an amazing run from 2003 to 2016 where we were the biggest festival band in the world.
”And to have that validation basically is the reason why you and I are talking. If the band had never come back, I don’t know how much it would matter.
”But between the band coming back and the songs ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ and ‘I Wanna Rock’ becoming so much standardized in the minds of people for TV shows, commercials, and soundtracks, maybe there wouldn’t be any interest.“
