In an interview with Guitar World, Motley Crue guitarist Mick Mars reflected back on CRUE’s two albums ‘Generation Swine’ & ‘New Tattoo’.
Mars stated as follows:
“We had been making greatest-hits CDs and performing all the iconic songs on tour, doing the same thing over and over again. That grows stale. We had performed “Generation Swine” and “New Tattoo,” but in all honesty, both of those were huge letdowns for us and our supporters. So we made the decision, What do you think? We need to sit down and focus right now. We need to make a truly contemporary rock album that yet sounds like Mötley Crüe and demonstrates our growth both as a group and as composers.”
‘Saints of Los Angeles’, their tenth album, was the result of that mindset. With the help of their most recent effort, the most infamous band in the world found fame and popularity once more.
As known, Mick is working on his first solo album. It looks like Mick is working with Paul Taylor, well-known as an accomplished guitarist/keyboardist.
Paul revealed during an appearance on the “Sonic Dorms” podcast that he spent “the last couple of years” collaborating with Mick Mars on the MÖTLEY CRÜE guitarist’s long-awaited solo album.
Here’s what he said (via Blabbermouth):
“That one, I wrote most of the record with Mick and [Alabama musician] Jacob Bunton, who sang with [former GUNS N’ ROSES drummer] Steve Adler.
“Me and Jacob have written a lot of stuff for TV together. I’m really excited to have that come out, and that, I think, is gonna be towards the end of the year.”
“Mick is so awesome, and just the endless cool things he comes up with and the palette of sounds.”
“There’s days I just go, ‘Is that guitar? Is that you doing all that?’ [It’s been] really fun. I’m very excited about that.”
On the musical direction, he said:
“Mick doesn’t really want me to say too much about it.”
“But he said it’s okay just to say it’s a heavy record — it’s definitely heavy — and it very versatile. I feel really lucky that I got to sit and work with him and turn these things into songs. I think it’s gonna blow some people away. It’s really cool.”
