MÖTLEY CRÜE’s Nikki Sixx has confirmed that the band is currently in the process of writing new music.
This exciting news comes just a few weeks after Sixx shared on Twitter that he and MÖTLEY CRÜE guitarist John 5 had spent some time “writing random riffs”. Sixx recently posted a photo of him, drummer Tommy Lee, and John 5 playing and recording in a studio on social media with the caption “Another killer songwriting day with Tommy Lee and John 5.”
In a follow-up tweet, Sixx added more information about the creative process, stating, “We are writing. The creative process of songwriting has always been the heartbeat of our band. We’re gonna go in the big studio next week and record a few off the floor and see where it goes. We don’t have a definitive plan at this point. Just letting the songs guide us.” It seems that the band is taking a free-flowing approach to their writing and allowing their creativity to lead the way.
John 5 joined MÖTLEY CRÜE as the replacement for founding guitarist Mick Mars, who announced last October that he would no longer tour with the band due to his struggles with ankylosing spondylitis, a type of arthritis that causes inflammation in the spine joints and ligaments and can lead to stiffness over time. Sixx has previously praised John 5, stating that he “checks all the boxes” as Mars’s replacement, and he also commented on John 5’s addition to the band while answering fan questions on Twitter. Sixx cited John 5’s insane playing skills, respect for their music, sense of humor, and history with the band, including their collaboration on some pretty big hits together.
Aside from co-writing three original songs on the soundtrack to MÖTLEY CRÜE’s biopic “The Dirt,” John 5 has also collaborated with Sixx and Desmond Child on Meat Loaf’s “The Monster Is Loose.” In 2021, Sixx and John 5 launched the L.A. RATS supergroup, which also features Rob Zombie and drummer Tommy Clufetos.
