Former JOURNEY lead vocalist Steve Perry is collaborating with legendary country music star Dolly Parton on her upcoming rock album titled “Rock Star”. The album is meant to celebrate Parton’s induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and will feature covers of classic rock tunes, including JOURNEY’s hit song “Open Arms”. The duet with Steve Perry is set to become one of the highlights of the album.
Perry and Parton have been busy in the studio recording their duet, and Perry recently shared an Instagram photo of him with five-time Grammy-winning producer Chris Lord-Alge putting the final mix moves on the song. The photo also included the message, “Chris Lord-Alge and I putting the final mix moves on my ‘Open Arms’ duet with the one and only Dolly Parton.”
“Open Arms” was written by Perry and JOURNEY keyboardist Jonathan Cain and appeared on JOURNEY’s 1981 album “Escape”. The track went on to become a major hit for the band, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was also featured on the soundtrack of the sci-fi film “Heavy Metal”. Over the years, “Open Arms” has been covered by several recording artists, including Mariah Carey, Barry Manilow, R&B group BOYZ II MEN, and Celine Dion.
Apart from Steve Perry, Parton has mentioned several other artists during her induction speech at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame ceremony that she wants to collaborate with on her rock album. These artists include JUDAS PRIEST singer Rob Halford, MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx, and guitarist John 5.
Rob Halford, in fact, joined Parton on stage at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony to perform her classic song “Jolene”. Nikki Sixx and John 5 are also expected to appear on the album, but their contributions have not been officially confirmed yet.
With the promise of such an impressive lineup, fans of classic rock music and Dolly Parton alike are eagerly awaiting the release of “Rock Star”. The album promises to be a celebration of the greatest rock tunes of all time, interpreted in Dolly Parton’s inimitable style, with the help of some of the greatest musicians of our time.
