Emperor is currently touring Australia after many years. They are widely regarded as one of the pioneers of the genre and have had a significant influence on the development of black metal music. The founding members of Emperor were Ihsahn (real name Vegard Sverre Tveitan) on vocals and guitar, Samoth (real name Tomas Thormodsæter Haugen) on guitar, and Mortiis (real name Håvard Ellefsen) on bass.
Emperor released their debut album, “In the Nightside Eclipse,” in 1994, which quickly gained critical acclaim and established the band as one of the leading forces in the black metal scene. The album is known for its atmospheric and symphonic elements, incorporating keyboards and orchestral arrangements alongside the traditional black metal sound.
Over the years, Emperor released several more albums, including “Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk” (1997) and “IX Equilibrium” (1999). Their music continued to evolve, incorporating progressive and avant-garde elements, while still maintaining the raw and aggressive nature of black metal.
Emperor played a killer set in Brisbane with support from the Aussie band The Amenta.
