In response to producer Bob Rock’s assertion that Nikki Sixx had been taking bass lessons for the past few years, Sixx himself has now addressed the issue. While Rock’s claims added to the existing accusations questioning Sixx’s proficiency in playing bass during live shows, the rock musician appeared unperturbed by the rumors and the producer’s statements.
Taking to Twitter, Sixx shared his thoughts on the matter, Nikki said:
“Someone seemed to find it weird I took bass lessons a few years ago. I was also taking vocal, guitar, and piano lessons. Nobody knows this, but I also took a college course on writing short stories and poetry. I will always to be curious as I travel my path. Hope you do too!”
Still, before Sixx cleared the air with the tweet above, readily accepting he did take bass lessons to improve his playing, some were quick to speculate that Bob’s words confirmed the rocker used backing tracks and even suggested he didn’t play on Mötley Crüe’s records.
So, Rock had to clarify his statement, saying:
“At no time did I ever actually think Nikki didn’t play bass on Mötley Crüe’s records. He’s one of the most unique and talented players in the world, and his approach to the instrument is part of what has made Mötley Crüe great throughout the years.
Lastly, I was commenting on and commending Nikki because he never stops learning and never stops improving. I respect Nikki for always wanting to be better at his craft, and it shows.”
