Paul Di’Anno, the former lead singer of IRON MAIDEN, recently expressed his dissatisfaction with GHOST’s rendition of “Phantom Of The Opera.”
In a now-deleted post on his personal Facebook page, Di’Anno bluntly stated that the cover “f*cking sucks.” The controversy arose as GHOST released their version of the iconic MAIDEN track as part of their “Phantomime” EP, which features interpretations of songs by other renowned artists.
He said:
“Everyone asking my opinion on the ghost cover of Phantom well not that it matters but it f*ckin sucks”
GHOST’s “Phantom Of The Opera” cover generated significant attention upon its release, coinciding with Di’Anno’s remarks. The Swedish occult rockers presented their unique take on the classic track, along with their interpretations of GENESIS’s “Jesus He Knows Me,” TELEVISION’s “See No Evil,” THE STRANGLERS’ “Hanging Around,” and Tina Turner’s “We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome).”
On the same day that GHOST’s rendition became available, Di’Anno expressed his opinion about the cover on social media. Although he acknowledged that his opinion may not carry weight, the former MAIDEN vocalist did not hold back in his critique. The post has since been deleted, but a screenshot captured by The Metal Voice shows Di’Anno’s comment, accompanied by a series of vomit emojis.
