David Lee Roth has unveiled a fresh rendition of Van Halen’s iconic track ‘Atomic Punk’ as a solo release. This marks another instance of David re-recording a Van Halen classic, following his recent reimaginations of ‘Everybody Wants Some!!,’ ‘You Really Got Me,’ ‘Dance The Night Away,’ ‘Panama,’ ‘Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love,’ and ‘Unchained’ during his studio sessions last year.
Despite previously hinting at retirement after his Las Vegas residency at the House of Blues in Mandalay Bay, David’s continued output suggests that he has no intention of concluding his musical journey anytime soon. During a 2021 interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, he stated, “I am throwing in the shoes. I’m retiring… I’m not going to explain the statement. The explanation is in a safe. These are my last five shows… I’ve given you all I’ve got to give. It’s been an amazing, great run; no regrets and nothing to say about anybody. I’ll miss you all. Stay frosty.”
In addition to the re-recorded Van Halen tracks, David has also released two original compositions titled ‘Nothing Could Have Stopped Us Back Then Anyway,’ produced during a session with John 5 in 2007, and ‘Pointing at the Moon.’
However, the true measure of success lies in the fans’ reception of David Lee Roth’s solo rendition of ‘Atomic Punk.’ One enthusiastic fan commented on the YouTube video, saying, “Favorite VH song, and this version by DDLR does the original justice. Hell yeah! I was wondering if you would ever do it yourself and release it for the masses. Thank you, Dave!”

This song alone is a demonstration or case in point for how gifted a lyricist and melody writer Roth is compared to “cNt drive 55 Sammy,” who did some good work in VH but not like Roth
