Def Leppard’s Phil Collen was interviewed by Graspop Metal Meeting, where he was asked if he thought about retiring from touring. In response, Collen expressed that he had no intention of retiring as long as he felt the way he currently did. He explained that maintaining a healthy lifestyle played a significant role in his decision. Collen emphasized his daily workout routine and his commitment to a vegan diet.
Phil said:
“Not when I feel like this. That’s the thing. If it was a struggle… It’s not for me. I work out every day. I’m a vegan. I haven’t drunk for 36 years. So all of those things really help. And you look at, like, Mick Jagger, he has a physio, he has a treadmill in his room.”
Collen further elaborated on the band’s dedication to their craft, emphasizing their vocal warmups and their genuine live performances. They continually practice, train, and strive to improve their skills. As long as they can sustain this level of commitment and continue to progress, Collen expressed enthusiasm for continuing their touring journey.
”And we have our trainer out with us. We have our chef out with us. So if you keep doing that and you’re serious about it… We do vocal warmups. We really sing (live); it’s actually us really doing it.
”But we actually practice and we train and do this stuff all the time. So as long as we can do all of that and still get better, then, yeah, great.”
