Dug Pinnick, the frontman of King’s X, recently reminisced about a humorous encounter with AC/DC guitarist Angus Young during an interview with Classic Rock. In the 90s, King’s X had the incredible opportunity to tour with AC/DC, and Pinnick shared some entertaining anecdotes from their time together.
Pinnick recalled the occasions when both bands dined together and hung out. On one memorable occasion, a few members of AC/DC couldn’t make it to their sound-check, so Pinnick and Jerry Gaskill, the drummer for King’s X, stepped in to help. Brian Johnson, AC/DC’s frontman, joined them, and together with a couple of their techs, they performed a few classic rock’n’roll tunes.
However, what stood out was Brian Johnson’s sense of humor. Pinnick revealed that he often struggled to understand Johnson’s jokes and would turn to Angus Young for clarification. Young, in his characteristic humor, would simply advise, “Just laugh, we don’t know either.” It seems that humor was the universal language among the AC/DC crew, and serious conversations were a rare occurrence.
While Brian Johnson’s jokes may have been a bit cryptic, they evidently contributed to the camaraderie within AC/DC, as evidenced by the strong bond between the Young brothers and Brian Johnson.
