David Coverdale of Whitesnake recently provided an update on the band’s status following a series of European show cancellations last year, and he also touched on the health of Steven Tyler from Aerosmith during an interview on SiriusXM’s ‘Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk.’
Coverdale discussed the ongoing communication with his band and the offers they are receiving, affirming that Whitesnake is still active. However, he explained that he cannot consider any engagements until he addresses his own physical health challenges:
“Well, my band and I are in touch all the time. There is still a Whitesnake, and there are still offers coming. I can’t entertain anything until I get my physical aspect together. I had a fall recently, which I don’t think helped my… I’ve got two torn rotator cuffs, which would certainly compromise my performance. But arthritis, all this kind of stuff’s kicking in.”
Coverdale then expressed his empathy for Steven Tyler, referencing the recent cancellation of an Aerosmith tour and acknowledging the challenges that come with aging and the responsibility to maintain a high standard for performances:
“My heart goes out to Steven after the [recent Aerosmith tour] cancelation. It’s so awful, getting older and having this burden of responsibility to try to be as good as you can so you don’t disappoint anybody. And I know how he feels, and I sent my love to him through our friends, mutual friends.”
After discussing Tyler’s health, Coverdale elaborated on his own health condition and the challenges he has faced, particularly the series of tour cancellations due to his illness:
“But I can’t commit to anything until I know how my health is. The last thing I wanna do is go on tour and have to do what happened last year, which was come home, tail between my legs. It was heartbreaking. And being sick for a year didn’t really help matters.”
Whitesnake has faced a series of tour cancellations due to Coverdale’s health issues. The possibility of resuming the farewell tour in 2024 has been discussed, with the primary consideration being health rather than professional factors. Similarly, Aerosmith’s tour was postponed due to Steven Tyler’s vocal cord and larynx problems, with all 2023 dates rescheduled for 2024. As of now, there are no scheduled tour dates for Whitesnake on their official website, leaving uncertainty about their return to the stage.
