In a recent interview with Guitar World following the release of his latest single, ‘Right Side of Wrong,’ Mick Mars opened up about the potential impact of his evolving musical choices on his fanbase. The veteran guitarist, known for his tenure with Mötley Crüe, acknowledged the dual facets of his playing in his upcoming album, ‘The Other Side of Mars.’
Reflecting on his musical journey, Mars stated:
“When it comes to my playing, there’s the Mötley side and the Mars side. Either way, I always have a very clear vision of what I want to do. People are going to hear my tone – my sound. I am what I am. My feeling has always been, I might gain some fans, I might lose some fans. But what they’re hearing, it’s all me.”
Scheduled for release on February 23, ‘The Other Side of Mars’ has already introduced its debut single, ‘Loyal to the Lie.’ In a conversation with Metal Hammer, Mars shared his aspirations for the album:
“I wanted to do something that was just big and mean. People are going to hear my tone — my sound. I am what I am. Nobody else can do it. And like everyone, I’ve got a limited number of years. So, I’m gonna do all I can to do a lot of stuff.”
Despite a period of relative quietude due to legal issues with his ex-Mötley Crüe bandmates, Mars clarified in a November interview with Eddie Trunk on SiriusXM that ‘Loyal to the Lie’ doesn’t revolve around the dispute:
“Mötley will always be a part of me, my legacy, stuff that I’ve done, and I loved what we’ve done, but there’s a time to call it. This crap that I have got a little rough on me traveling. So, it is what it is. But no. That song is full-blown just against the lie, whether it be cultist or, I’m not gonna say government, but I say, governor: government and that kind of stuff.”
