Gene Simmons of Kiss recently disclosed that he reconnected with his former bandmate, Ace Frehley, and even lent a hand with Frehley’s solo album.
In a recent interview with Artists On Record, Simmons was asked about the possibility of reuniting with his bandmates to create new music. He responded:
“I’m open. You always have to have the right thing at the right place and the right time. We got the right musicians, we got the right guys. I like them, we like hanging out with each other, so that’s good. For instance, Ace, Paul and I had our differences through but what family doesn’t have problems?”
Reflecting on their past differences, Simmons recalled a time when Frehley reached out to him for assistance with his 2018 solo album, ‘Spaceman’:
“Even while we were having differences of opinion, Ace called and said, ‘Can you help me write a song or two?’ for his last solo record. I wasn’t doing anything [at that moment], I said, ‘Sure.’ So I drove out there, started off with the titles that I had and co-wrote two things that appeared in Ace’s last record. There’s plenty of time to do anything, but you’ve gotta make the time because other stuff just gets in there.”
Despite their collaboration on ‘Spaceman,’ it seems that Frehley has no intention of reaching out to Simmons or any other Kiss members. Frehley has been discussing a new album before the release of his latest record, ‘10,000 Volts,’ in various interviews. He hinted that this album was intended to surpass his former bandmates’ work, stating:
“I made this statement before this record even started. I said, ‘This album’s gonna embarrass them,’ because they can’t do a record this good. I dare them to.”
Furthermore, Frehley claimed in the same interview that both Stanley and Simmons had disparaged his name.
