In a recent interview with Artists On Record, former Mötley Crüe guitarist Mick Mars opened up about his favorite albums from the band, but surprisingly, they do not include any featuring Vince Neil.
When asked about his preferred Mötley Crüe records, Mars didn’t single out a specific one but rather referenced the album featuring former frontman John Corabi. He remarked:
“The [John] Corabi album stands out to me. I felt like we tapped into something special during that era. If we had been a new band, I believe it would have achieved tremendous success, perhaps even more so than anything else we’ve done. Unfortunately, it came too late. Perhaps if we had rebranded ourselves, the outcome would have been different, and now, people are only just beginning to recognize that. We were ahead of our time.”
Mars departed from the band in 2022 due to health issues, subsequently being replaced by John 5.
Despite John 5 stepping into Mars’ shoes, the former guitarist expressed no animosity towards his replacement. Moreover, Mars highlighted the silver lining of his departure from the band, emphasizing the creative freedom it afforded him. In a previous conversation with FOX17, Mars elaborated:
“Diversity, though not always acknowledged, is lacking in today’s music landscape. I intentionally crafted my solo work to offer a diverse sonic experience, taking listeners on a journey with each track, painting different musical landscapes. It was essential for me to showcase that I’m not confined to a singular style as a player and songwriter. I now feel liberated to explore various avenues creatively. There are endless possibilities out there, and I refuse to confine myself to a narrow box.”
