In a recent episode of The Hook Rocks! podcast, Lita Ford reflected on her experience in the 1980s, standing out in the testosterone-driven world of hair metal. In an excerpt transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET, she discussed the challenges she faced:
“It was a lot of maneuvering. And men, well, they’re just men. Nothing invincible about them. It was a puzzle for many, not just men, to grasp the idea of a female guitarist. But for me, it was simple. I just wanted to play. The concept of gender barriers never really clicked for me.”
Acknowledging the support she received from male musicians, she highlighted individuals like Dee Snider and Ritchie Blackmore, who didn’t let gender dictate their judgment. “Dee was a huge advocate,” she reminisced. “He’d fire up the crowd before our shows, regardless of gender. People like Ritchie Blackmore never judged based on gender. These musicians were open-minded; it was all about the music.”
In a later interview with Robert Miguel of Uvalde Radio Rocks in late 2023, Lita addressed the delay in releasing her highly anticipated new album: “Navigating the music industry today involves juggling numerous elements. I need all the pieces in place before releasing the record. Recently, we’ve made significant progress in filling those gaps. We’re gearing up for the release very soon.”
