Michael Anthony recently shared his insights on Alex Van Halen’s upcoming memoir, Brothers, during an interview on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation. The bassist speculated that the book will emphasize positive memories rather than focusing on past conflicts involving former Van Halen members like Sammy Hagar.
“Alex, basically, like myself—I’ve never been one to wanna talk smack about the band or whatever, ‘cause I choose to remember all the good stuff and all the good times that we had,” he explained.
“And I’m hoping, and I’m pretty sure that that’s probably what the book will focus on and not any dirt or whatever, ‘cause Alex really was never that kind of guy anyway.”
Anthony also commented that the memoir and Alex’s decision to auction off his drum gear in June were part of his process for finding ‘closure’ following Eddie Van Halen’s death in 2020. Alex described Brothers as a ‘love letter’ to his late brother.
“This is my tribute to my brother; my way of saying goodbye,” he shared. “Ed, I love you and miss you. When I see you again, I’m gonna kick your ass!”
The 384-page memoir traces the Van Halen brothers’ journey from their childhood through Eddie’s passing. Brothers is scheduled for release on October 22, with an audio version, featuring their final music together, available afterward.
