In a recent interview with The Archive Of B-Sox, Ace Frehley opened up about his enduring passion for music and what continues to drive him after six decades in the industry. The KISS legend, now 73 years old, reflected on his long career, sharing that he started playing guitar at the age of 13, marking nearly 60 years of professional performance.
“I’ve been playing guitar for 60 years,” Frehley said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET). “I started when I was 13, and now I’m 73. Professionally, I’ve been doing it for about 60 years.”
Ace also spoke about the joy he gets from performing live, noting how much satisfaction he derives from connecting with his audience. “I really enjoy performing,” he explained. “I get so much pleasure out of making people happy. When I perform and I get a good audience response, it just makes my day.”
Frehley prides himself on delivering a raw, authentic live experience, free from the reliance on backing tracks or pre-recorded elements, which he says are sometimes used by other artists. “For an hour and a half, I give my fans a treat,” he said. “They get to see me perform live without any of that nonsense that others use. No names [mentioned]. I just get out there and kick a*s.”
Ace also praised his current band, which includes Scot Coogan on drums, Jeremy Asbrock on lead guitar and vocals, and Ryan Cook on bass. “I’ve got a great band,” Frehley said. “The four of us just kick a*s. We play new material, some FREHLEY’S COMET stuff, and of course, some KISS songs. It’s a well-rounded show, and I think the fans will be pleasantly surprised.”
