In a recent interview with Greg Prato for AllMusic, RATT singer Stephen Pearcy opened up about his efforts to reunite the surviving members of the band’s classic lineup for tours in support of the Out of the Cellar reissue and last year’s box set.
Pearcy shared that while he has made attempts, some of his bandmates lack the drive he has to get the band back together. “Some of them don’t have the drive that I do,” he said. “And without Robbin Crosby — who was really important in keeping the band together and keeping us directed — he was the guy who pretty much directed us. I created it, he directed it. I made attempts.”
Pearcy was also asked about the suggestion from some in the RATT camp that the band should have been included in 2022’s The Stadium Tour alongside Mötley Crüe, Def Leppard, Poison, and Joan Jett. “Of course, but I’m not the one,” Pearcy responded, acknowledging that the band would likely have had a tough time getting on the bill. He explained, “If it was a vote, of course not — I don’t think Mötley would want to play after us.” He added, “We still have some kind of competition out there, y’know? We would consider it, like, ‘What? We’re going to open up for you?’ So yeah, we should have. It would have made sense. I mean, I don’t care if you put us third, fourth, whatever — our motto was, ‘Go out there and beat your a*s, anyway.'”
Pearcy’s reflections on the band’s history are also tied to the band’s 40th anniversary. “I tried to get the original guys. We attempted it once, and it was just like, ‘Whoa.'” Despite these challenges, Pearcy is focused on celebrating RATT’s legacy in his own way. “What I’m doing [with my solo band] is playing the record live,” he said. “The original band never even did that.” For Pearcy, it’s about moving forward while honoring the past, even as the band’s reunion dreams remain elusive.
