Following the recent retirement of Iron Maiden’s drummer, Nicko McBrain, fans were sent into a frenzy after guitarist Dave Murray posted a new video. The video, shared on social media, was meant to mark the end of the band’s “The Future Past World Tour,” but Murray’s words had many fans fearing that more departures were imminent.
In the video, Murray spoke candidly about the tour and what’s to come. “2024 has been an amazing year for Maiden, for playing music and for touring. We’re finishing in about three or four days and then we’re gonna go home to take a holiday and we’re ready for an amazing 2025 which is gonna be completely different and spectacular. Thank you, God bless,” he shared with fans.
While Murray’s message was meant to convey excitement for the future, it quickly sparked panic among Iron Maiden’s loyal fanbase, especially after McBrain’s retirement announcement earlier. One fan tweeted, “For a horrible moment I thought this was going to be Dave announcing his retirement! Thank goodness I was wrong!!!”
Another commented, “I had horrible PTSD for a moment before it played, thinking Davey was making an ‘announcement,’ too. I needed the defibrillator! Oh, thank goodness!” Fans couldn’t help but laugh at the scare, with one writing, “What a scare! Damn you, I love you Iron Maiden.”
McBrain had previously announced his retirement after careful consideration, reassuring fans that while he was stepping down from touring, he would continue to be a part of the Iron Maiden family. He expressed his gratitude to the fans, family, and friends who had supported him throughout his career.
