Nikki Sixx, bassist for Mötley Crüe, has found himself at the center of controversy after a recent social media post about his expectations for 2024.
In a post shared with his followers, Sixx expressed his eagerness to leave the current year behind, citing personal betrayals. “Looking forward to saying goodbye to 2024. It’s been the year of being stabbed in the back multiple times but the future is beyond bright for me and my family,” he wrote, offering a glimpse into his frustrations.
However, the post sparked immediate backlash, especially from fans who couldn’t help but draw parallels to his strained relationship with former bandmate Mick Mars. Many users pointed out the irony of Sixx’s statement, with some directly referencing Mars’ exit from the band. “You kind of know about stabbing folks in the back eh?… considering what ya did to Mick… define irony,” one commenter wrote.
Others joined in, highlighting the band’s internal struggles. “Now you know how Mick feels. Hope it gets better for everyone,” another fan remarked.
The debate intensified when one user recalled the infamous situation that led to Mars’ departure from the band. “No one gonna bring up the absolute Brute vs Ceasar backstabbing that they pulled on Mick huh?” they asked, to which another replied sarcastically: “‘I tried to fire Mick Mars and he sued us and won, I’VE been backstabbed!!’”
Mick Mars, who had been battling health issues, stopped touring with Mötley Crüe but remained involved with the band’s creative direction. Eventually, Mars filed a lawsuit against Sixx and the other members, which further fueled speculation about the internal tensions within the band. While Mars was out of the picture, Mötley Crüe moved forward with new projects, including a highly publicized European tour with Def Leppard and a studio album—without Mars.
In 2022, guitarist John 5 officially replaced Mick Mars on tour, sealing the guitarist’s departure from the group.
