Tony Harnell, the lead singer of TNT, recently shared a personal update with his fans, revealing that he underwent laparoscopic surgery to treat localized prostate cancer. The 62-year-old artist, originally from San Diego and raised in California, made the announcement on his Instagram on Wednesday, November 27.
In his post, Harnell expressed his deep gratitude, especially as it coincided with Thanksgiving. He wrote: “Extra gratitude on this Thanksgiving. On August 1st I had successful laparoscopic surgery for aggressive prostate cancer. 5 days later I was rushed to the ER with sepsis and spent another 3 days in the hospital till they stabilized me.”
Describing the ordeal, he continued, “What a ride! Not sure how close I got to the exit door, but I’m deeply grateful to all of those who took fast action that day to save my life. I’m feeling better each day. Long recovery from this one.”
The musician went on to acknowledge the support he received during his challenging recovery. “I couldn’t have gotten through it without close friends, amazing doctors, and my sweet Kristi,” he shared. This health setback led to Harnell canceling some shows in August and deciding to take the remainder of 2024 off to focus on healing.
He added, “This is why I had to cancel some shows in August and decided to take the rest of 2024 to heal my body, mind and spirit. It took a lot out of me and still building myself back up.”
Harnell also expressed heartfelt thanks to those who reached out to check on him during this difficult time. “Thanks so much to all of you who’ve reached out and checked on me. This Thanksgiving is truly about giving thanks!”
He ended the post with a positive note for his fans: “Wishing you all a very happy Thanksgiving filled with love, peace and light. See you on the road in ’25!”
As a final piece of advice, Harnell shared a health reminder: “P.S. GUYS, stay on top of your PSA tests every year!”
