Sammy Hagar, best known as a member of Van Halen, has recently shared shocking details about a robbery that saw millions of dollars worth of tequila stolen. The heist involved Hagar’s and business partner Guy Fieri’s tequila brand, Santo Spirits, which was taken during a trip across the border from Mexico to Texas.
Speaking at Metallica’s The Helping Hands Concert at L.A.’s YouTube Theater, Hagar explained the intricacies of the robbery. “It was a heist. It was a very programmed thing,” Hagar told Fox News Digital, describing how the theft was meticulously planned.
Hagar revealed further details, adding: “There was some kind of organization, I can’t talk too much about it, but we’re finding out who it was. It was well planned. The truck drivers didn’t know anything—they were just hired to pick the stuff up. They had fake cellphones and fake GPS, and then they just sent them to drop it off.”
The theft occurred in Laredo, Texas, where two trucks were transporting over 24,000 bottles of Santo Spirits tequila. While Hagar and Fieri’s personal finances remain largely unaffected, the heist dealt a significant blow to their distillery’s operations. Hagar noted that the robbery had a major impact on their holiday sales.
“We found one truck, so we’re getting somewhere, but we’ll never find the second one because it supposedly has been dispersed into the system,” he added.
Despite the setback, Hagar and Fieri are now focused on recovering from the loss and ensuring their distillery stays operational. However, replacing the stolen stock has proven to be a difficult task as they continue to investigate the elaborate crime.
